Introduction
This flexible diploma enables you to combine modules from engineering analysis and technology management to shape a qualification that suits your career aspirations. You’ll broaden and deepen your understanding of professional engineering, and work collaboratively on a project module. The diploma also provides a route to a masters-level engineering qualification and can help you progress towards Chartered Engineer registration.
Key features of the course
- Develops advanced engineering, project management, communication and teamwork skills
- Includes group project work with other students (usually at a residential school)
- The opportunity to top up to the MSc in Engineering in just one more year
Program Outcome
The learning outcomes of this qualification are described in four areas:
- Knowledge and understanding
- Cognitive skills
- Practical and professional skills
- Key skills
Curriculum
Course details
There are two routes through this qualification:
- Route 1 is for all new students, and for students that started their studies in November 2019 or later.
- Route 2 is for students that started their studies before November 2019. If you’re following this route, you must complete your studies by 31 December 2023.
Route 1
To gain this qualification, you need 120 credits as follows:
30 credits from List A:
- Finite element analysis: basic principles and applications (T804)
- Manufacture materials design (T805)
Or, subject to the rules about excluded combinations, the discontinued modules T881 and T884
60 credits from List B:
- Calculus of variations and advanced calculus (M820)
- Environmental monitoring and protection (T868)
- Finite element analysis: basic principles and applications (T804)
- Making environmental decisions (T891)
- Making strategy with systems thinking in practice (TB871)
- Managing for sustainability (T867)
- Managing change with systems thinking in practice (TB872)
- Manufacture materials design (T805)
- Project management (M815)
- Strategic capabilities for technological innovation (T849)
- Technology innovation management (TB801)
- Mathematical methods and fluid mechanics (MST326) 1
- Deterministic and stochastic dynamics (MS327) 1
Or, subject to the rules about excluded combinations, the discontinued modules T846, T848, TU811 and TU812.
1 You may choose only one of these two modules. While the 30 credits you achieve will contribute to the 120 credits required for this qualification, the grade you get won’t contribute to the overall classification.
30 credits from:
- Team engineering (T885) 2
2 To begin T885, you must have completed all other modules in this qualification.
Route 2
To gain this qualification, you need 120 credits as follows:
