Composition studies examines the theory and practice of writing instruction. This field is also known as rhetoric and composition, college composition, and writing studies. These courses tend to promote the use of writing and help students better express themselves through written language.

A graduate pathway may do more than simply prepare a student for the classes in an advanced degree program. It could be used on a resume to show a future employer that the student stayed focused on the end goal throughout the entirety of his or her education.
